What is 'Efrain'?
'Efrain' is a short drama film written by Alex George Pickering and directed by Matthew Breault about a young Mexican American boy who learns the powerful consequences of trying to protect his family. It was produced at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts while Alex and Matt were attending as M.F.A. students. The film debut at the historic Norris Theatre in December 2009 and went on to play in over 40 film festivals around the world, eventually winning the Fotokem Gold Award at USC's First Look 2011 at the DGA. It also won "Best Short Film" at the 2010 San Antonio Film Festival and "Honorable Mention" at the 2010 Los Angeles Movie Awards. The film was featured in both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
